I joined the army as a national serviceman on 5th July 1956. I was a timeserved Millwright engineer and so took technical training to become a gun fitter with the REME. I volunteered for active service and was deployed to the Far East. I joined the 10th Infantry Workshops in Jahore Bharu and from there, during my service, I was attached to both the Austrailian Artillery at Butterworth and the 10th Ghurka Rifle Regiment at Taiping. |
